The W300 is a 13.6 megapixel beauty with a 3.00 zoom lens and a 2.7” LCD screen with an optical viewfinder. The shutter speed is 30-1/2000 and a 2.8 to 5.5 aperture range. It weights 6.5 ounces and measures 3.7 x 2.3 x 1.1mm. It has a Li-Ion battery, which can take up to 300 shots without a charge.

The Sony W300 can be turned on in two ways. There’s a power button below the level of the top deck and there’s a playback button on the back panel. The W300 is a well balanced camera, it is a little bulky, but I can still carry it in my pocket without a bulge. The Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization with ISO and motion detection, enables me to shot great photos in low light settings. Sony also included three automatic modes which are: Easy, Program Auto and Auto. When I first got the camera I used the easy mode until I became familiar with it, then I moved to Auto mode for face detection, Scene Recognition, Red-eye Reduction and Setup options. In the Program Auto mode the camera recognizes five scenes: Twilight, Backlight, Twilight Portrait, Backlight Portrait and Twilight Portrait using a tripod. The W300 also has two additional modes in the Intelligent Scene mode: Advanced which takes two shots of the same scene and Auto which takes only one.
Is The Sony Cybershot DSCW300 13.6 MP Camera Worth It?
Sony has a winner in the W300 even though it can’t zoom in movie mode. The image quality is outstanding with natural colors and superb highlights. There are less expensive cameras on the market, but the HD output, the manual exposure mode and the excellent low-light performance feature, definitely make it worth the money. It has a very responsive autofocus, which means there is very low shutter lag and the face recognition distinguishes adult faces from children faces.
